Andrea Cortonesi is one of the rising winemaker stars of Montalcino and he likes to think that the wine and food of a region must clearly transmit a sensory experience true to its origins. Casato is his new eno-gastronomic venture, well-located right in the centre of Siena. Here you can sample regional dishes and more exotic dishes created by Chef Cornelio. Besides the à la carte dishes, Cornelio prepares a daily menu which reflects the seasonal offerings. Casato’s wine list provides a wide range of Italian wines with an excellent focus on wines from Andrea Cortonesi’s fellow winemakers in Montalcino. The sommelier will recommend the ideal food pairing for each wine, and the kitchen prepares each dish with a focus on which wines will complement it. There is also an excellent olive oil list. Casato’s Enoteca can also organize wine tastings and wine related programmes. Every resident of Siena knows where Casato is. For those less familiar with Siena you should head for the Piazza del Campo; facing the Palazzo Comunale, look to the right for a sign, ‘Bocca del Casato’, which is where the Via Casato di Sotto begins. Walk 20-30 metres, and you are there.
