Michèle Shah is a freelance wine, food and travel writer who has been based in Italy for over 30 years and in 2009 was awarded the Grandi Cru d’Italia best international journalist award. Her writing career includes news stories on-line written for specialist wine websites and a monthly column for www.winenews.it, plus feature articles for specialist papers and magazines internationally including Wine Spectator, Decanter, Wine Business International, Vini, San Pellegrino, Slowfood, Corriere Vinicolo, Der Feinschmecker - Wein Gourmet and most recently Sommelier India and Le Connoisseur - Fine wine in Puerto Rico. In 2006 Mitchell Beazley published the new and revised edition of her book Wines of Italy. She has also written the 2007/2008-2009 Gli Spumanti d’Italia (Italy’s sparkling wines) from Editore Veronelli and is contributor for the Italian section of Hugh Johnson's Pocket Wine Guide. As well as writing, Michèle acts as consultant to the Italian wine trade, organizing tastings and workshops held at Italian trade events, such as Vinitaly, leads professional and amateur tastings and is a professional international wine judge.
