Right in the centre of the town with outstanding views overlooking the Val d’Orcia and Val d’Arbia, Hotel dei Capitani is one of the historic landmarks of Montalcino – during the Middle Ages it housed the Sienese militia while they were in flight from the Florentine army. The hotel is run by the family Fioranvanti and the staff, in particular Mariangela at the reception, are very welcoming and helpful with information about the surrounding area. Being an historic building, each room is different, but all have en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV, minibar, safe and air conditioning. There is a good pool, which although a bit on the small side has a nice view. No restaurant.

Useful information: Rooms: €115-€130 including breakfast. Parking available. Closed January and February.
