Re di Macchia is a classic, elegant restaurant set on two floors in the historic centre of Montalcino. The reception area has a large open fire, which gives a warm welcome on those cold, wintry Tuscan evenings and where you can enjoy a good glass of wine. Here the cuisine is strictly Tuscan, featuring Tuscan beans cooked slowly over the fire, hand-made pasta with hearty wild boar and wild hare sauces, game, braised meats and roasts. If you have a sweet tooth, ask for their range of home-baked cakes. The wine list offers a good selection of over 100 Brunellos. Upstairs, the dining area is wood-beamed with brick walls and the tables are elegantly set, providing a romantic venue.

Useful information: Tasting menu: €25. Closed Thursdays.
