Castello di Argiano’s 102-ha estate, of which 9ha are planted to vines, is owned by astronomer Giuseppe Sesti and run according to organic and biodynamic philosophy. Both Giuseppe and his daughter Elisa are most hospitable and the 12th-century castle and tower, built on an Etruscan and then a Roman settlement, have a magical aura about them. Giuseppe’s expert knowledge of ancient astronomy and the wonderful pure quality and depth of the wines make for a fascinating and worthwhile visit.
