Il Poggione is one of Montalcino’s historic and largest family-run estates, with 125ha of vines, founded in 1800 by the Franceschi family. Today’s owners, Leopoldo and Livia Franceschi, produce well-structured Brunello di Montalcino and Riserva, showing ripeness, minerality and complexity, which age with grace and elegance. The new cellar, built in 2004, where today they age their wines in large French oak barrels, extends five metres below ground. The estate also produces excellent olive oil from its 70ha of trees. Alessandro Bindocci  or one of the owners conduct visits to the winery and the tasting.

Useful information: Open for visits and tastings by appointment only Monday to Friday, 08.00-13.00 and 14.00-17.00. The cost of a tasting depends on the size of the group and the wines tasted. Languages spoken: Italian and English. Il Poggione also has its own self-catering accommodation in the vineyards (Agriturismo Il Poggione).
