Moderate difficulty: Park your car in the cark park by the church in the lovely little village of Saint Yzans de Médoc, where you can explore the ruins of the medieval Ile Abbey, built on a small hill overlooking the marshlands. Head off on the right hand fork downwards through vineyards towards the river, where you will eventually walk past Château Loudenne and its gorgeous pink exterior. Stop off for a drink and a picnic if you have time, as they are very friendly! Keep following the track right down to the river bank, then turn left and start heading back up. You will see lots of little cabins along the river, where fishermen sit to catch eels, lampreys and other fish. Keep walking all the way along until you get to Port Lamena and turn left at Château Mazails (you are now on a small road, but still walking alongside vineyards). This road heads right back into Saint Yzans de Médoc, passing an attractive mill along the way.
