Mélanie Pfister took over this 10ha family domaine in 2006 after studies in Bordeaux and Dijon, and various stages in Alsace (Zind-Humbrecht), Burgundy (Méo-Camuzet) and Bordeaux (Cheval Blanc). Two new departures for Mélanie are an elegant, raspberry-nosed Pinot Noir Barrique and Cuvée 8, a fruit-packed blend of the 4 noble grape varieties (Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewurz and Muscat), whose exact composition changes from year to year. The vins de terroir range, grown mainly in the Silberberg lieu-dit, has finely aromatic Les 3 Demoiselles Muscat, and good Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Best of all, and worth laying down for 8-10 years, is their award-winning Riesling Grand Cru Engelberg. Wines are closed with the elegant and practical Vinolok glass stoppers.
Useful information: Tasting caveau open 09.00-12.00 and 14.00-19.00. Sundays by appointment. English spoken.
